Self-Service Equipment

The Facility's MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer, 2D gel electrophoresis and Typhoon gel imaging equipment are available to investigators after successfully completing a training workshop.  Trained users may reserve Core self-service equipment via the reservations page.  Training is by appointment.  Please contact Jackie Seidl at This email address is being protected from spambots. MALDI-TOF Training

Before you may use the Voyager DE-STR MALDI-TOF you MUST attend a three hour training session. Once trained you may use the MALDI-TOF at an hourly rate from 8 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday. After hours are available upon request for key card access.  Training sessions for the MALDI-TOF are by appointment and are held on Thursdays from 1-4 PM in MRB room 362A.  Please contact Jackie Seidl at JThis email address is being protected from spambots. Prior to attending the training please let the staff know: (1) types of compounds to be analyzed; (2) mass range of interest; (3) relative amounts to be analyzed; and (4) expected buffer components in your samples. Please bring the following to the course: (1) Password; (2) Budget number; and (3) (optional) Up to 2 samples to analyze. Typhoon and Scanner Training

Our Facility currently maintains two scanners, available for use as self-service equipment. After a brief 10 minute training, you will be welcome to use the scanners as needed, for the small laboratory usage fee per year.

Typhoon

The Typhoon 9400 instrument contains a red, green, and blue laser, and is capable of scanning using a 10-μm pixel size for high quality gel images.

Flatbed Scanner

The Espon 750 flatbed scanner is ideal for imaging gels in the transparency mode, to get clean, crisp gel images.

Gel Electrophoresis Training

Our facility maintains the required instrumentation for 1 and 2-D gel electrophoresis.

After a brief training, tailored to your specific needs, the gel electrophoresis equipment is available to use as a walk-up service.

We currently have 3 GE isoelectric focusing units, 12 mini invitrogen gel boxes.
